Santiago de Cuba, 3/1/2014. Just after a few hours of Raúl Castro’s speech in Santiago de Cuba, today 3rd of January at 7am (Cuban time) the homes of several eminent peaceful opponents have been raided in the East region of the island.

José Daniel Ferrer and Ovidio Martín Castellanos, after suffering two separate assaults on their homes and the theft of belongings which included children Christmas gifts, have been arrested and transferred to unknown whereabouts.

10 activists and 2 leaders in 2 houses (José Daniel Ferrer’s and Ovidio Martín Castellano’s) were detained in this raid.

6 activists from UNPACU where detained together with José Daniel Ferrer at his house:

  • Ridel Alcántara Brea (freed without charges)
  • Lorenzo Malezo Isaac (freed without charges)
  • Daniel Guevara Silveira (freed without charges)
  • Juan Eduardo Salgado Jurado (freed without charges)
  • Ernesto Verdecia Miranda (freed without charges)
  • Raúl Armando Pereda (freed without charges)

Activists that were detained together with Ovidio Martín Castellanos were:

Jose Daniel Ferrer HAS BEEN RELEASED.

It is not confirmed, but José Daniel Ferrer would be detained at Unidad de Versalles in Santiago de Cuba, Ovidio Martín Castellanos at Unidad Micro9 de Santiago de Cuba, and the rest would be so at Tercera Unidad en Santiago de Cuba.

We’ve been informed that Aimé Garcés’s house and  Omadis Leyva were also assaulted.

The registry order would say that they came to take all “toys, money and any other material considered illegal”.

Berta Soler and Angel Moya Acosta detained in Havana.

Rosa María Nieves, Lady in White from Holguín, reports the detention of more activists in that province with the same characteristics of the onse from the oriental part of the island. Political police took all they had for giving the children form the The Threee Magic Kings tradition to the kids: toys, soda water and bread.

A new raids late today (Victor Campa Almenares’s house):

We’ve been reported by Roilán Álvarez Rensoler, (+53) 53 93 45 72, of 23 more detainees in Victor Campa Almenares’ house in a new raid later today, in Palma Soriano. Reports of this late raid can be consulted to UNPACU activists in the telephone (+53) 53 65 4213 and Roilán Álvarez Rensoler’s phone.

42 anti-riot units assaulted Pedro Campa Almenares’ house kicking the door and hiting everyone inside. They left with 23 detainees:

Palma Soriano’s chief of security forces, an agent called Edgar, whose real name could be Maikel Merino, threatened Víctor Campa Almenares’ wife, Yoanna Benítez Guazo, for recording the scene with a camera as they were leaving the house with the detainees activists.
