A massive and resounding “NO”, for Cuba, with love
It is worse than many expected! If from the beginning the draft constitution of the Castro-communist regime was unacceptable for all Cubans who love freedom and democracy, the final text, according to what has been published by the official press, is inadmissible for every honest person. The draft new Constitution denies elementary rights, restricts basic freedoms. With this Constitution we will continue oppressed and in the deepest misery.
There are many reasons to support the previous statement, but it is enough to mention the main one: Article 5: “The Communist Party of Cuba, unique, Martist, Fidelist, Marxist and Leninist, organized vanguard of the Cuban nation, based on its democratic character and the permanent bonding with the people, is the superior political force leader of the society and of the State¨. Only for this article, which makes Cuba a nation under a strict Stalinist-type dictatorship, this draft Constitution must be rejected forcefully.
The reading of the new texts can not be more frightening and disgraceful at the same time:
- How can the “superior political force leader of the State” be democratic, that whose leaders are not elected by the people through universal suffrage? The Communist Party can not be attributed the representation of the Nation. Party comes from part, part of the people. The people in a country is a whole. A party can not arbitrarily represent or direct everyone: “From the rights and opinions of their children all is made the people, and not from the rights and opinions of a single class of their children.” (José Martí)
- Mingling the Apostle of our independence with Marx, Lenin and Fidel Castro is an infamy. José Martí openly rejected communism.
- Asseverating that “only in socialism and in communism the human being reaches his full dignity” is an offense to intelligence and a total blindness to 60 years of endemic indigence and chronic incompetence.
- Constitutionally tapering the rancid term of “proletarian internationalism” is recognizing the oppressive vocation with which the Cuban regime enslaves Cuban professionals abroad, and the vocation of political interference in countries that, like Venezuela and Nicaragua, it has collaborated to destroy. It is reaffirming the intention to continue attacking the sovereignty and the rights of other peoples.
Ignoring the “referendum” on February 24, in which the Project of the Constitution will be receiving a YES or a NO, would comfortably guarantee success to the tyranny:
A) In a vote, rigged or not, the one that leaves the ballot blank and the one that abstains, both, leave the decision in the hands of the ones who vote or the ones who cheat.
B) Attendance to vote, in addition, is already rigged beforehand: Cubans who do not go to vote pay a high price for their absence: they fall into political, social, economic and often criminal disgrace.
A massive and resounding NO, the most effective option
Abstention could reflect the true feeling of many citizens, and has a good value, but the NO is much clearer, easier to explain, to communicate, to even exercise in Cuba, than the absence option and, in a nation where fear reigns due to the many repressive methods of the regime, the majority find it more difficult to refuse to go to the polls than to mark on the ballot the “NO” option. A massive and resounding NO the most effective option to make this new intent from the dictatorship to make up its repulsive face. It is much easier to rig the abstention than to rig a shower of negative votes, which will permeate even those who recount the infamy. However, both options will add in showing the discontent with the infamous Constitution that presents us the more infamous regime, and that is reflected by José Daniel Ferrer in his tweeter account:

To make possible that necessary, massive and resounding NO, all of us who love Cuba, all of us who want a free, fair and prosperous Cuba, we must join forces now, those in the island and those in exile, and begin to articulate a solid and smart Campaign for the NO.
We all know that it is very difficult for us to agree on which Projects and Campaigns should be supported or not. In order to advance UNITED from now on – every minute counts – let us leave aside, for the sake of Cuba and its freedom, and until February 25 2019, any name of organization, every project, every campaign, every difference, and let’s concentrate on what’s now urgent. After February 24, taking into account what we are able to achieve UNITED, we must continue, with redoubled energies and the largest UNION, the struggle for the end of oppression and misery.
The Campaign for the NO is the duty of all, not only of opponents, dissidents, human rights defenders, journalists, independent bloggers and rebellious artists. If we do not turn it into the Campaign of all the good Cubans inside the island and of the diaspora who want a free and prosperous Homeland, we will not have the necessary result. We must inform, encourage and motivate our compatriots so that the answer is forceful. We must make it clear to the world that we reject the tyranny that harms us so much. We must create teams that observe the referendum process on February 24 in the largest number of polling stations. Tyranny will commit fraud, stop activists, threaten many, once again violate its own rules, but UNITED we will make things more difficult and we will have enough evidence and data to dismantle the fraud.
Let’s start now, UNITED, with LOVE for Cuba, the Campaign for a massive and resounding NO!
